Ustaad Sajjad Hussain
SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

g5

I met him just before I started making Bhoothnath…

Ustaad… Sajjad Hussain…

He looks young…he is young….:)

I started sitting and sort of learning… Music…

I believe and strongly believe that music is real creativity…

People who can create music are the real creative people…

Its not easy to create a tune… to create a phrase… its something which not everyone can do…

When I met Guru Ji (Ustaad Sajjad Hussain) I felt that I was just born…

Music ka khazaana… :)

Ustaad Sajjad Hussain….

Now I know why people are called Ustaad…

He is.. he is real Ustaad..

Not only for his knowledge of music but for passion of sharing his art…his knowledge…

g31

I remember when I was irregular attending music classes he would call me almost everyday to come for sometime and do Riyaaz…

Once I went to his house and I said, “guru ji…bass main chaay peene aaya hoon”

His wife went inside to make tea and he took out harmonium and said, “jab tak chaay banti hai apan SA lagaate hain”

I was amazed and overwhelmed…

Real teacher, Real Ustaad who forces you to break your own boundaries and keep learning…

He belongs to Gwalior gharaana… he belongs to music…he belongs to the Universe…J

I have never seen or met such a positive person in my life… die hard positive…

Someone who goes out of his way to give you HIS knowledge of music…

Unconditionally…

I am blessed to have such a great guru…like a father… father of music… extremely talented and humble…

I wonder why we have stopped recognizing Living Legends like Sajjad Bhai…

Are they only meant for events or restricted to teaching?

Will Indian classical music die such an unrecognized death…?

Nope…

We won’t let it happen…

Long live Ustaad Sajjad Hussain…

Long Live Indian Music…

Convert Opportunities…
SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

I meet a lot of people from different walks of life… I always try to learn or gain something from them. I know that people who are successful, they have something extra in them.

And I realised it’s the art to convert opportunities.

I remember Shah Rukh said in one of his interviews that “I was with the right people at the right time”

He insisted Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra to become directors and all three made some successful films.

Recently I met few new-comer writers and assistant directors. They met me to get some work. I asked them if they are genuinely passionate enough for their own goals. They said a loud and clear “yes”

And I am waiting for them till the date as they never came back or tried to pursue their own goal.

Just disappeared…

This is our way of functioning.

Work was there…right there and you could not covert… For all the wrong reason…

Most of us are un-employed by choice.

We are late because of traffic or driver coming late…

Nope…

We are late as we never wanted to reach anywhere…

I am working on 5 different films.. and trust me with the same intensity and amount of zeal it requires…

Because I know that everything will come back but not the time…

I have always converted opportunities to real… if I start a work…I make it a point that I complete it properly.

Amit ji called me once around 8 am in the morning…

I was sleeping and he caught me…

“So Rahe ho…? Dopehar ho chuki hai”

I replied, “dada…its only 8am…?”

He replied in his firm voice, “Bhoothnath… creative aadmi ke liye 8 baje dopehar hoti hai aur lazy aadmi ke liye 12 baje… hosh mein aa jaao toh phone karo”

Uff…

That is why he is Amitabh Bachchan… One and only…

I have improved on my way of designing time and using myself to the fullest.

I don’t want to die cribbing that I wish I could have done that…

Who stops you…? No one… may be we only stop ourselves..

We must convert opportunities… like NOW…

If not… then there is a long queue of those…who are raring to make it big…

Don’t just become fill in the blank.. Become the most important WORD of the sentence…

Time starts now…:)

stand like a WINNER:)

stand like a WINNER:)

Perception…
SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

In a film unit we are almost 200 people working on one project. Each department has its own strength depending on the canvas (budget) of the film.

It becomes difficult to handle all, as everyone has different set of mind and way of functioning.

So largely film making is handling people:)

I remember one interesting incident. We all were working on a project. Very Big Film. Won’t tell you the name:):)

Director Saab was upset with one assistant director as he felt that he doesn’t give inputs.

Director Saab was almost set in his mind to throw him out.

Hmmmm…

I wanted to save him as I knew its just a misunderstanding.

Assistant felt that he is much senior and has not been given bigger responsibilities.

That’s good. He wanted to do more. So what was the problem?

Hmmmmm….

I was traveling with that assistant to home and before he could crib I said, “kal sir teri bohat tareef kar rahe the…”

He looked at me as if I am joking.

I said, “ wo sabke saamne tujhe daant-te hain kyonki tujh par apne bete ki tarah haq jamaate hain”

Assistant was totally confused but in positive frame.

I knew it would work.

I added more, “bol rahe the ki tu unke mann ki baat samajhta hai… aur ek hi aadmi hai unit mein ji sab kaam karta hai…bada chhota…”

Cut To

Next day

Mehboob studio

Only one person in our direction department was working:)

He was in positive frame of mind and snatching work from senior-junior. All..:)

Director Saab was amazed to see this change in him and he loudly said, “Very good”

He looked at him like a proud son and they worked happily ever after… :):)

Perception…

It plays a big part in our life.

We assume things. We react. We over react.

Bhoothnath was conceived based on this thought.

A child who has been taught that there are no evils… no ghosts…

Only angels…

Sirrf achchai…

My friend saw one film and started criticizing an actress.

I said hey but when she came home she was praising you so much.

She changed her perception towards that actress…

I do it quite often as I want people to fall for each other. I want them to not form any opinion.

It’s not important…

We must connect without any prejudice…

If life creates a perception towards you… then it’s all over:):)

You know what I mean…

Have fun… :)

Par Day 2500 Rupaye…
SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Year 1999…

I was working as an associate director in Shah Rukh Khan’s company… Dreamz Unlimited… Now known as Red Chillies…

Me and Aziz Mirza ji were sitting in direction room, 3rd floor…

We were meeting actors and finalizing their remunerations as par their number of days required for the shoot.

One senior actor came who must be in his late fifties.

I remember him as he would visit Mahesh Bhatt’s office for work several times.

After he left, Aziz ji asked me, “vivek…iska kitna par day hona chahiye…?”

I said. Very callously, “sir 2500 se zyada nahi… iska itna hi worth hai… isko main achche se Jaanta hoon… Bhatt saab ke office mein bohat aata tha…”

Aziz ji did not reply… took a pause… then he called Bobby Chawla, our C.E.O.

Aziz ji told Bobby to pay that senior actor 8000 par day…

I was almost shocked and disturbed; this is too much money for him…?

Bobby left and I asked Aziz ji… why did you give him so much of money?

He replied like an experienced person. “vivek…jab wo Mahesh ke office aata tha…tab wo young tha…struggle kar sakta tha… aaj iss umra mein bhi wo kaam ki talash mein hai.. aur umra uske saath nahi… iss waqt usse paison ki zyada zarrorat hai…”

I was stunned and angry with my small thinking… I was ashamed of myself…

It changed my perception for a lot of things…

Life is not about finding someone’s worth… its just a tag…

Sometimes is beyond that…

Sometimes its just life…

I remember this because last week when I was going to my music class, a spot boy D’souza stopped my car and with a lot of hope he asked me, “vivek ji..kaam nahi hai kuch…khaali baitha hoon.. aap toh jaante hain hum par day waale hain… kaam nahi toh marr jaayenge”

I saw only and only hope on his face… Hope to get some work…

In our film industry nobody ever bothers to think about these people.. all are so busy endorsing cars, and different brands, opening salons and gymnasium and walking on the ramp for people who don’t eve contribute anything.

I wish I was so rich so rich that I can help the whole world… :(

I wish main kisi ki hope ko fulfill kar sakoon…

I hope I earn to share…

I hope I respect age, and not count people just as daily wages laborers..

Life is tough… Lets share and make space for those who need it more.. more than us…

Help is tentative.. but so what.. it makes a difference..

Kai baar zindagi phir se shuru karni padti hai…

Aye Zindagi Gale Lagale..

I remember…
SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

I remember…

2009… Went very fast…

I remember… I did hawan and puja on 1st January…

And I am completing this year with same Satyanaran Katha with hawan…

For everyone’s happiness and success…:)

I remember, when one car banged my car from back.

I got down with anger…

The person who banged it was looking at me with fear…

I remember when I smiled, he smiled back…

We did not fight…

I remember, he said sorry…

I remember that I also have to learn to forgive… to move on… with positive energy…

I remember when I saw an old lady working in her old age…

I decided to work more hard…

I remember, I prayed for her good health and happiness…:)

inspiration

inspiration

I remember all those people who ill-treated me and my creative work…

And I decided not to bow down in front of wrong…

I realised that I won… :)

One sided…

I remember my father taught me that respect yourself… don’t let anyone disrespect you…

Stand on your feet…

Players play their game… spectators make noise…

I remember to play…and play…till I win…

play to win

play to win

I remember… so many friends turned their back on me…

I am so happy to be away from negative… from all those who are losers…

I remember that I am born for certain reason… and I have to fulfill god’s dream…

Dream of making me a good human being…

I will try till I am alive… that’s a promise god…:)

I am here coz a lot of people helped me… prayed for me… kept fast for me… supported me… accepted me…

I remember… I have to pay back… I have to pay it forward…

Happiness, smile, love and creativity are so contagious…

You smile and person will smile back… :)

It’s so simple…

I remember that I have hurt few people and I have guts to say sorry to them…

I want to apologize to all of them once again… I mean it…

Year 2009 brought a lot of change in me… in my vision… in my surrounding… I can see myself better… I know myself better…

I know… you are also going through the same process… :)

You all are better human being then me…

I remember, I exist coz of your love and attention…

I remember when Shalabh ji came to meet me.. Simple and honest human being…

Kavi Deepak… creative and very clear person…

It’s an amazing feeling…

What a fantastic year it was…

Hai na…

I hope we all grow old together… holding each other’s hand… understanding each other more…

Please remember… it’s one life… give…love…share… and live…:):)

Wishing you all a very happy year ending and a great new positive beginning of New Year…

With new people, new energy… new dreams…and new success…:):)

Reflection Of An Age…
SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

age

I remember Raashtra Kavi Shri Surya Kant Tripathi “Nirala” ji’s poem.

“Wo todti patthar. Dekha usse maine Allahabad ke path par… wo todti patthar”

It came on my mind when I saw this old lady, cleaning glass door…

I had come to meet someone in this rich building…

Old hands were cleaning glass door with a lot of care and passion.

I could see her reflection on the glass…

I took out my camera and clicked these pics…

Reflection of an old age…

I salute this lady for not only working so hard but also working in this age…

She must be 65 years old…

As she looked at me, I smiled… she smiled back and took a pause…

And again went back to her work..

One gentleman came and opened the door leaving some marks on the glass…

She sprayed more Colin and cleaned it again…

Amazing… no complaint…

It’s so important to enjoy your work… the whole process…

An old lady removing wrinkles of a shining door and she has wrinkles of age on her face… so many… wrinkles, which shows her experience and struggle…

In our country we don’t have any concept of old age pension or any such support system for old people.

I know it’s so difficult to work and earn in this age…

But one has to do it… for living… for survival…

I wish we all can become more caring towards them and make them feel that we are born out them… we are because of them…

Old people are tender and fragile… Handle them with care and lots of love:)
